GRIEF THERAPY IN MARBELLA
Grief is a normal reaction to the loss of someone or something meaningful to us—for example, the death of a loved one.
Although it is most commonly associated with bereavement, grief can also arise from other types of loss, such as the end of a relationship, losing a job, divorce, or the diagnosis of a serious illness. In some cases, complicated grief may even lead to depression.
The grieving process helps us adapt to a new reality, and during this process, a series of stages often emerge to help the person navigate their loss.
This process varies greatly from one person to another in both duration and emotional intensity. People may go through different stages, but these do not always occur in a fixed order, nor do all of them necessarily appear.
Grief therapy is a form of psychological treatment and support that helps individuals cope with grief in a healthy way. It allows them to express and process their feelings of loss, learn to adjust to life without the person or thing they’ve lost, and eventually find a path forward. A psychologist will guide you through the emotions and phases you need to work through.
STAGES OF GRIEF
-
Denial: at first, a sense of denial or disbelief may appear, as if what happened isn’t real.
-
Anger: feelings of frustration or anger may arise, often from perceiving the loss as unfair.
-
Guilt: repetitive thoughts about what could have been done differently may emerge.
-
Depression: sadness, emptiness, and hopelessness can take hold in response to the loss.
-
Acceptance: recognizing the reality of the loss and beginning the process of adapting to life without the person or thing.
